Well, yes and no. In the case of the episodes and such, the 'raw' or japanese without subtitles, are not illegal strictly speaking. It's no different than recording a TV show at home. Fansubs, as I understand, are only illegal after the rights to the show have been bought for the purpose of selling. Since they would obviously be making their own subbed a dubbed versions, any distribtution of fansubbed episodes would be considered an infringement of copyright. For movies and such, it is illegal no matter what. I'm sure I am incorrect in some way here. All I ask is that I am corrected in a civil manner:E
