Depending on the size of the kit and the can, the propellant MIGHT get you through one project, and it's the best way to do large smooth surfaces. I have a cheap Badger model 350, one step up from thier bottom line model, and i use canned propellant. I like it so much i aim to get a more expensive one, and a compressor....canned air is expensive over time. For the hair I use a traditional brush, i find the strokes give just a little more texture....i like the look.

Although the pictures aren't that great you can see two of my kits here: http://www.piczo.com/lionfish?g=2214171

Wow, those kits are really great. ^_^ And thanks for all the great advice. I can't wait to try my hand at a kit... now I just have to pick one. :sweat:

Right now, I'm torn between "Misato w/gun" from Evangelion, "Celas w/Bazooka" from Hellsing, or "Alucard 2 guns" from Hellsing. As far as AMG, I'm content for now with the action figures, though I am pondering getting Bell with Tsukai or Bell with Holy Bell... I just want practice with kits before I splurge on a really good one. ^_^;

Grr, my browser isn't letting me open the link, but if it's the one where she's crouching, holding the gun in a Charlie's Angels-type pose, that's the one I'm talking about. :sweat: I've wanted that one since I first saw it on eBay!
lol, I have a little bit of a Kimono weakness myself, as far as *wearing* them, but I satisfied that by buying an authentic furisode. ^_^;;;

So which kits are you working on now, Lion, if you don't mind my asking?

Crouching, holding the gun in a Charlie's Angels-type pose, red jacket and a really tight black leatherish skirt... yes that's the one i think.
As for the other kits, "working on now" is a bit of a stretch...they've been sitting for a couple months, waiting for boredom and ambition to coincide. Anyway, here's what's in the pipe:
1/8 Belldandy with angel wings, sitting on crane...she's primed and just waiting on paint, though I want to redo the crane, supplied one dosen't please me.
1/1 Hand Maid May, running, with usb cord .... also waiting on paint, i even trimmed up a real usb cord to replace the resin one.
1/8 Urd, standing in tigerstripe bathing suit....ready to be primed, but I keep threataning to use some sculpey to make a kimono over the swimsuit
And one I haven't started, Rei in summer yukata(kimono)

Yep, that's the Misato one I'm looking at! But I should probably wait on that, as I'm in the middle of customizing two model horses right now. ^_^; One's almost to the point of being ready to paint; it just needs some final touching up and another 15 minutes in the oven to harden the last layer of sculpey. The other is in a terrible state: I've just started sanding it and carving off the seams. It's a model from the 80s, and they didn't bother to smooth out the finger impressions in the mold, much less the seams. :P $7 on eBay for a beat-up plastic horse, but boy do I have my work cut out for me!

fingerprints= hair texture ;p

sand and putty and elbow grease i suppose is your only resort for fingerprints cast in place. do you make model saddles too? And did you see the model of urd on a rearing horse? (of course you must have) is it me or is the horses head odd? but it does match Fujishima's illustration .

Yeah, it's a gorgeous kit, but the horse is definitely, well... grossly out of proportion. ^_^; I'd like to buy the kit someday and just put that Urd on a custom Sleipnir! Ah, someday...
I don't make model tack, though... not so far, anyway. I'm working my way up to it. :P It's not the leatherworking I'd have a problem with so much as the little teeny buckles. Also, for such tiny materials, the costs add up pretty fast.
