stevejean you like Les Pauls? I love them too, I have an Epiphone Les Paul Plus right now, but I'm saving up for a Gibson Les Paul Custom Plus. Oh and MK1, if you're just starting and have no official training, its best to just get a squire of a first act (depending on if you wanna play acoustic or electric) to learn on, if you already feel good about your abilities, go for Gibson or Fender, play around with different ones until you comfortable with one, oh and once you get comfortable with one, don't get the floor model, order it, that will save you money in the future.

As for acoustics, Carlo Robelli, Martin, or Ovation are good brands to get. As for Gibson and Fender, they are also brands for guitars. If you're just starting though, I suggest getting a First Act starter Kit, it has everything you need to get started, guitar, strings, instruction booklet, and tuner.

I play a Les Paul 'imitation'.. when i say imitation, well...
its like this, the one I had has the looks of a Les Paul.
but the body and evrything else is the structure of a strat.. hehe
I'l up a pic of it later, it's still cool, dont have any choice anyway.

If it plays, and you know how to use it, brand names aren't that important (still important though.)

When he says he has a classical guitar, he means he has a spanish style acoustic that uses nylon strings instead of metallic strings. The main difference between them are that on a classical guitar you should never for any reason use a pick, as there is no pick guard. You must learn the difficult skill of finger picking. It is used to play many things from old style sonatas and fugues to the Spanish Malaguena. This is not to say that it is only used for classical music, many artists use a classical guitar ranging from Jimmy Page with "Going to California" to Radiohead with "Creep" Oh and Strats are awesome, but only if you can fork up enough cash to get one that has a humbucker.

Eh?
Using a pick in a classic guitar is not necessary...?
Hmm...i guess thats the reason why the sound is kinda disoriented when strumming with a pick...

Anyway...I'm using steel strings on my guitar, heheh...
