Lately I have noticed a significant interest in "coloring" manga images. This fascination seems to have spread to more than a few BAF members including, airgeneralpong, Zato-1, and myself. The original interest is probably due to "AMG Colors", which was published some years ago.

The purpose of this thread is to spread the enthusiasm for this hobby to other members, to discuss our techniques, and to share our work with each other. To start the thread I have included some samples

A picture from the original "AMG Colors", for reference.

Good to hear that you have taken it up as well stevejaen.

As far as image editors, I use GIMP (a free image editor). It's taken me a while to figure it out, but it is an exceptionally powerful tool. What do others use?

As promised, here is the technique to draw the tongue.

This is just the example. If I want to paint (draw)
this with this referent which has the similar angle and size.
First, I complete the mouth shape, and draw the dark area like this (normally, dark area is the darkest red)

Then, I use the paint bucket for the large area by using the color which is behind (dark red from ref)
After that, I draw the lighter part (light red from ref) by using the brush with appropriate size
Finally, I use the blur tool to combine the dark and the light together. Now it's complete!

I can also use the same way for other images,
such as this from this referent

Well this is just my way. If you have any other nice techniques on painting, please feel free to share them. :)

The simplest one!, Photoshop (any versions are fine). Cause, I have no skill for any special tricks... So I use the very basic techniques, such as Paint Bucket tool, Eye dropper Tool, Brush, Blur, and Clone Stamp Tool, on all my arts. q^ ^p!
