DirectX CAN be uninstalled by using the approprioate software(dx erradicator, happy dx, etc.).

But the problem is that if i uninstall DX, i still need the winXP cd to erase the registry entries, which i don't have it and i'm still trying to find that in stores. :bg:

that's news to me. I looked on the Microsoft website to see if it can be unistalled, and I found nothing.

it's not part of the core os. you'll have to use third-party software to uninstall though, as microsoft doesnt want you to. most likely will break your video drivers though (640x480 8bit mode, yay). but i dont think this would help anyways; i'd rather try downloading the latest installer directly from microsoft instead of using the ones on game cds, to be sure to get the latest version. maybe it's just an bug in the installer that got fixed in the version currently downlaodable

Thanks guys fo the help and info.

I just know what the problem is! I have to install TNL(transform and lightning) in our system so that the l;atest games can be played.

Now, have you guys heard about this software?

Are you using beta slipstreamed version of Service Pack 2?
If so, that is your problem.
