I feel like throwing a little randomness out there today:p My family has a large mixture of cultures(Huguenot, German, Scotch-Irish, English, and Scottish to name just a few), but our family name reflects our strongest influence: Welsh. Now it has been a long time since we had family in Wales, our first ancestor came in through Jamestown in he 1640's, but Dad always wanted to keep some of our ancestral traditions alive. We celebrate today and sometimes even Bastille Day, and other various holidays. Even if Dad does fly the Welsh seperatist flag with St. David's cross on it when this comes around:sheep:, it was great to take a look back at all the people who had an influence on what I am today.

For those who wish to know, St. David is the patron St. of Wales, and was famed for bringing Christianity to the region. It is somewhat similar to St. Patrick's Day, but with far less press:p. The irony of course being that my family is protestant. I know this thread won't last long as it is, so feel free to share any special holidays or traditions your culture might have, I think it would be fun ^_^.

My family celebrates St. David's Day too! I still have relatives in Wales and on more than one occasion I've actually been in Wales for St. David's Day. I always enjoy celebrating this holiday and I hung my welsh flag in my dorm window this morning. I also have a nice bouquet of daffodils sitting on my desk that my parents sent me. For me, this marks the beginning of spring. Although, in Maine right now (where i go to school) there is about 3 feet of snow on the ground. I'm actually heading back to MA in about an hour and I can't wait for our annual St. David's Day dinner party tonight. :) It's nice to know that at least one other person on this site celebrates it too!

Wow, I didn't even know about it.
Well, one of mine is ANZAC day, in Australia. I'm a cadet so I get to do parades and dawn services (stuff like that) and it connects you with the generation that came before. Its all about respect, but my friends mostly all love the public holiday.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant! ^_^
Cymru am byth!

Rather than make a new thread about it, I decided to reuse the old one from last year.

And the avatar change is only for today. :P

Oh how foolish I feel now (especially after having lived in Britain)... I guess it's good to be humbled now and then. Wales Forever, then!

Nah, don't sweat it Bdiah. Too bad it has to be one of those suddenly active days, I stopped seeing this thread on the front page within 20 mins I think. Combination of old threads being revived (though I should note, teh_nubkilr, that you should do a few threads at a time. Not 8), and a complete lack of iterest in an esoteric holiday from a largely unkown country:p

Ah yes, I remember The Bastille from the movie The Man in the Iron Mask and The Three Musketeers books. Very enjoyable material. :)
