Read that the AMG series, and the goddesses themselves are based off of norwegian mythology. The following was taken off of "http://skuld.animesekai.net/mythology.html"

Ah! My Goddess has it's roots in Norse Mythology. From mythology, Verdandi (Belldandy) Urd and Skuld were three sisters called the "Norns", or the Three Fates. These three sisters spun the thread of life for all living things. (This concept is also found in Greek/Roman mythology) The sisters lived near the "Well of Urd" at the base of the tree Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil is the tree of the world and connects the nine worlds found in Norse mythology.
The classifications of the goddess in AMG: past, present and future for Urd, Belldandy, and Skuld respectively, also come from the mythology.

Yup, I'd found that info on a site about the Norse mythology a while back. I think it's definetly interesting, and it gives a name to their father too. Norvi, I think. Oh well.
:welcome: by the way.

Some additional trivia:

The name VERDANDI is the revised name of VERTHANDI.

Anyway,

Yes, I herd about that from Yuka. I didn't even know that the three goddesses were from the mythology until this past school year.

Oh............Welcome.

Now, lemme see what else I can come up with that hasn't already been mentioned...think...think...think...Ahah! Idea! (I watch too much Jimmy Neutron. Blame it on that) I mentioned a poem about it before, right? Turns out it was a song; my bad but it's practically the same. Anywho, this is the part where Hild is mentioned.

*~*
Valkyries I saw, coming from afar,
Eagerly riding to aid the Goths;
Skuld bore one shield, Skogul another
Gunn, Hild, Gondul and Spearskogul:
Duly have I named the daughters of Odhinn,
The valiant riders the Valkyries.

I think Peorth and Rind are the names of some Norse runes or something, although I'm not quite sure about that. Their names aren't mentioned with the gods, anyway, so it's possible.
The Norse mythology is a rich one, and although it is similar to the Roman and Greek mythology, it still has some unique parts that aren't mentioned in either. I only hate the tale of our creation. That's just gross.

Peorth and Sigel are both Norse runes and names for characters in the manga( i don't know about Rind). Fujishima uses quite a few names from Norse myth in the story, but he also uses other themes to build his Ah!Megami-sama universe.

The Ygdrasil/Nidheig systems the goddeses and demons use function pretty much like computer networks, right down to having bugs, viruses, and executable code.

The names of many of the mortal supporting cast are also names of Japenese model kit companies; Hasegawa, Tamiya, Aoshima, Otaki

And all the tiny spirits, demons, etc that inhabit magical and everyday things like trees, brooms, engines and such.... really a very Shinto theme, not to mention all the Shinto and Buddhist charms they use to corral Mara!

Fenrir, or sometimes Fenris, is the name of the wolf in Norse legend that kills Odin in the final battle, and to whom Tyr lost his hand when the gods chained fenrir. It would seem to be the same wolf, but of course Fujishima puts his own spin on the old Norse legends.

Yup. It was also said, that when he was hurt during a fight, that Fenris' blood caused the plant called Wolfsbane to grow. As you might know, this is a strong poisonous plant that can cause hallusinations in small doses.
Same thing goes for Cerberus, the three-headed dog in the Greek myths.

I said it went for the Greek myth too, Asgard-san, but the original story is from the Norse myths. So for once, I am keeping on topic.
