The US space agency (Nasa) has unveiled its proposals for returning humans to the Moon in 2020.
But what's behind the drive to go back, and how will astronauts get there?

Why does the US want to go back to the Moon after all these years?

Nasa's Apollo programme, which was designed to land humans on the Moon and return them safely to Earth, ran from 1963 through to 1972.

In total, 12 astronauts set foot on the lunar surface over six missions - beginning with

I actually have an autographed photo of the Apollo 15 crew that belonged to my grandfather ^_^. Odds are NASA just wants to be important again. They were big here for a long time, but launches have become routine, and in some cases a joke. They just want to make it seem like they are still doing something. It also serves as a springboard for Mars, which might actually get people interested again.

People might think that someday when can live out in space, but the problem with that people loose bone marrow without gravity. Gravity strengthens our bones and muscles. So it would be hard with the less gravity on the moon to live there.

But it might be possible but highly unlikely that we will have people stay on a base on the moon. So a base would be useless in my opinion. Plus if we did go through with a place a base on the moon stuff like a oxygen tank, water and food would have to be transported all the time, and I doubt NASA would pay that much many to do that or anyone as of matter of fact.

Only if out planet was dieing would we then have to try. And I don't think that it will ever happen but people are scared of global warming effect though. :ionc:
