I'll choose Sigrud/Sigfried....he's the one who beats Gunther, so i guess thet he will fit in the AMG cast as the guardian of the norns!:bg: :bg:

ooo, neat! The goddesses get a bodyguard! :) What do you think they'd need him for in context of the series? Let's hope Hild isn't getting too wily!

Actually, I'd chose Baldur. He was considered the best and brightest of the male gods. K1 has never really had any competition for Belldandy, and it would make an interesting twist. Imagine Keiichi's reaction if Baldur were to come to earth in an attempt to woo Belldandy (no way he could succeed, but still...).

K1: Here Baldur. Have some tea.
Baldur: Why thank you, mortal. Hmmm... interesting taste.
K1: Oh, that's just the mistletoe
Baldur: {Falls over, dead}
K1: ooops. Nobody saw that, right?

PS a good source for information on Mythology is a book by Edith Hamilton called "Mythology". It doesn't go very in depth, but does give a good overview.

lol, wow! I like to think Keiichi wouldn't go to quite such an extreme. ^_^;;; Goddesses don't come to those sort of people, after all. But I *love* that idea!

I don't think K-1 would resort to such devious means either... that part of it was a joke... just trying to make people chuckle... still, some competition would be good for K-1.

Then again, I think if he'd gotten half a chance (and if the doublet system wasn't in place), they'd have never found Velspar's body ;)

Urd: Where's the cat?
K-1: (bad Brooklyn accent) He sleeps with da fishes.

lol! That's true... even the best would do anything for love. Even Bell has her jealous spells. ^_~

Well, Belldandy has established that if she had two options, save the world or save Keiichi, bye bye world.

Wow, that's right... That definitely shows the more emotional nature of we of the female persuasion. ^_^; But realistically, we'd probably try to do both at the same time!

Hmm, those entries seemed a tad fawning about the old Norse gods. While they did mention Odin as a god of war and death, it failed to mention his darker sides such as being a rather treacherous trickster and a god that demands blood sacrifices.

And did you correctly translate that part about Freja being the first among valkyries? While she does receive half the people who die in battle from the valkyries she is never said to be a valkyrie herself. The valkyries serve her but she is a (vana)dis, not a valkyrie (just like Sauron can be considered a leader of orcs without being an orc). If anything I think Skuld would be rather upset :bash: at losing the title of foremost among valkyries to a love goddess.

I know the interpretations vary depending on the source. And you're right, Gauss, over the ages the tales of *all* mythologies have been romanticized and sometimes even sweetened to a Disney quality with the retellings, which is why you end up with so many versions. But keep in mind, the reason we're looking at the sweeter, more romantic versions is that we're talking about which Norse diety would be likely to show up in AMG. :) And since it's a sweet, romantic show, that kind of fits. Unless you have ideas for a good villain. ^_~

Absolutely true. The less sources we have about something the more open it is to interpretations.

Hmm, a good villain... Loki would be too obvious. We could cast another valkyrie as a demon. Or why not Notte (Night). Sure she is supposed to be a Goddess but when you deal with the dark... plus according to some (shaky) interpretations she is a sister of the three norns. Much potential for mischief whether she appears as a demon or deity.

We sure could! That's how a huge majority of Anime start out, after all... the big ones included! DBZ is based on a Chinese myth, Sailor Moon is based (verrrry) loosely on Greek myths, Yu-Gi-Oh! is based just as loosely on Egyptian myths... The list goes on and on.
