^^ sure! no problem! here! http://grenier2clio.free.fr/nordique/ but i have to warn you it's in french.... :s you can use babel fish for translating http://world.altavista.com/ ^^ but i had to change the way of some of the sentences i translated because the legends are writen in "good" fench, with complicated sentece formulations.... so read your traslation a few times.... and also, when there's "it" "its" etc, try to replace it by he or she.... ^^

and i don't really know for Odin and Kami-sama.... because at first i thought is was Odin, but when i saw the movie.... there was a song in latin... and latin is more christianism.... @_@ so i really don't know.. i'll have to meditate on that.

and i also have a thing for the way things go in the 9 worlds with the tree and all.... but i'll try to find it on the net... ^^

personally i like to think the world of Aa! Megami-sama is not based on Norse mythology, sure it may hav taken ideas/characters from it but thinking about it doesnt really use any of the stories or legends.

well.... Peorth is also in the norse mythology... it's the name of a rune which is associated to dice gambling. maybe favorised chance. and Sigel too actually is the name of a rune... it represents the sun. helth is upcomming, like the strength of life... so there are a lot of hints to the norse mythology... not even to mention Belldandy, Urd, and Skuld being the norms of present, past, and future...

many of the "demonic" aspects and the charms and such they use against mara in the manga are of shinto/buddhist origin, so are the many "spirits" that inhabit thier particular universe . While the series borrows a great deal from norse myth, it is certainly not BASED on it, Fujishima is using what he pleases to tell a really good story. So continue the talk on Norse myth(it is fun), but remember none of it has to apply in the Ah! Megami-Sama universe.

Think he is saying that Kosuke Fujishima is using bits and pieces of legend and myths from differnet places to make up some part of AMG.

yea it's like a cross-over of different religions! ^^ oh and here's something on Yggdrasil ^^

Yggdrasiil was the cosmic tree; a gigantic ash always green, which represented the axis of the world. It had three roots:

A root was born in the source of Hvergelmir in Niflheim. A snake, called Nidhogg, kept this source but he corroded at the same time the root to destroy it.

The second root was born in the fountain of Mimir in Midgard. The water of this fountain was the source of all wisdom. It was jealously supervised by the god Mimir.

The third root reached the well of Urd, in Asgard, which was kept by the three Norms which were the very wise old women and who decided the destiny of each person. Even the gods were subjected there.

An eagle and a falcon were perched in the highest branches of Yggdrasil. The squirrel, Ratatosk, traversed unceasingly from top to bottom on its trunk, carrying the insults between the eagle and Nidhogg, the snake.

Very interesting stuff! And lion is right, Fujishima successfully borrows aspects and characters from *all* religions, both ancient and current, to create his own version of heaven and its denizens. So far I'd have to say he most heavily borrows from Norse mythology (though I haven't read a great deal of the manga, so I could be wrong), but even then, he only borrows names most of the time, and occasionally rank or power. I particularly like it when he uses it as metaphor, such as Gungnir, the spear of Odin in mythology, being a giant laser from heaven.

Melichan, your idea of different servers containing different creatures/aspects of life (the dead) seems to be fertile ground for plot complications or a small storyline. Especially suited for introducing new characters to the series. ;) Especially with Skuld spending most of her time on earth and the various lil "bugs" not being splatted by her hammer. Just imagine if "data" from one server was accidentally transferred into another such as earth. ROFL Especially if noone noticed, well at least at first.
