Most things Urd would wear aren't fit for polite conversation! Hehehehe.... actually though, she has been dressing a lot more conservatively in the manga lately. I think being on earth is being a good influence on her.

i have always liked Belldandy in her casual clothes in the manga, they are simple but Belldandy's beauty shines through, it goes to show how beautiful she is!

I tend to agree with you there, Larry; Urd seems to really have calmed down recently. And K1, I agree with you, too! I love Bell's casual clothes! She's got that whole 1950's beauty Donna Reed thing going on, with her respectable knee-length dresses and cute little cardigans. ^_^ I love that style!

i dont know what you mean by 1950's style and Donna Reed (who's she!?) but i really like Belldandy's outfits. The knee length skirts and cardigans are very feminine, you dont see many girls wearing those nowadays.

Donna Reed was the iconic American housewife of 1950s and 60s TV. Her style was exactly the same (except for the hair). She was feminine and beautiful without being risque, and she could also cook and clean. She always had a cheerful attitude and was never down. Did you see the remake of "the Stepford Wives?" All of the robotic "perfect" wives pretty much resemble her as well.

sounds like a pretty good icon! you dont get many of those from the US! hahahahaha (joke). im not exactly that familiar with the american 50's 60's stuff.

lol, ouch. ^_^; Yeah, the only down side to Donna Reed is that she really had no mind of her own. It was all "Yes, oh my darling all-knowing husband, I live to serve you and only you forever and ever and promise to have no dreams of my own!". Feminists don't care for that sort of thing. ^_^;;; I, on the other hand, think that's a pretty sweet deal for the most part, if it means you don't have to go to work every day!

Melichan,

That sounds much more like Barbara Eden from "I Dream of Jeanie".

Incidently, did any of you know that I Dream of Jeanie was WILDLY popular in Japan? They loved it... so much so, that influence from it can still be seen in anime and manga today.

Ever heard of a character named Belldandy???

Larry

PS Another cool idea would be Mara in Belldandy-style clothes and Belldandy in Mara-style clothes. You could even title the picture "Mix-up at the cleaners."

i always thought Sumomo from Chobits looks a bit like a genie! mabye thats where they got it from, or it could just be a coincidence! one could only guess!

lol, so maybe I exaggerated a little. ^_^; But you're right, now that you mention it, I can see the influence of I Dream of Jeanie all around! Including Sumomo, K1.

Another *huge* influence in anime and also Japanese cinema is H.P.Lovecraft. It's *everywhere*.

never herd of it myself, actually i never even knew Japan had been influenced by american tv shows so much, usually the influence us with their own movies such as 'Lost ion Translation," and 'Shall we Dance" where originally japanese films remaid here ^-^ I loved 'Lost in translation' i love deep movies that make you think.

a friend of mine, who's also an anime fan, told me that Lost in Translation is an insult to the Japanese culture, i dont think i'll see it. other films that have been influenced by anime are The Matrix (Ghost in the Shell anyone?)
They say Kill Bill is influenced from anime but i think that is an insult also, they made a real mess of it, i refuse to watch it. If somebody gave me the DVD for Kill bill i would give it away for free in an instant!

You shouldn't be so easily influenced by things you hear. Although Kill Bill was a mindless action movie, it was a fun mindless action movie. I'm glad no one told you "Ah My Goddess stinks" before you had the chance to watch it for yourself... oh well... "These aren't the droids you're looking for."

And since no one has bothered to answer, H.P. Lovecraft was an American writer of the horror genre. He basically created his own mythology, mostly centered around the "Elder gods," who were essentially these demonic beings who used to control the earth, but left long ago.... and are beginning to come back. Cthullu is the most famous of these elder gods, and Lovecraft has been an inspiration to almost everyone working in the horror genre since (I think he was alive and writing around 1900... memory fails me though).
