The most majority of all anime follows this process:

1 - It is aired in japan TV broadcast.
2 - It is released in dvd format for japan zone (Zone 2 NTSC)
3 - It is released in dvd format for US/Canada zone (Zone 1 NTSC)

The fourth logical step would be to release anime to Europe Zone (Zone 2 PAL)

Almost all the times 4th step is skipped, making Anime PAL DVDs extremelly rare this days.
The question is that PAL Dvds are way better than NTSC Dvd's becuase they give a better eye confort when watching in Large TV Screen Sets.

Pal has 20% more vertical resolution lines than ntsc. (576 instead of 480).
If you're watching a NTSC video on a large TV screen please be very far away or your eyes will hurt.

The question is: If pal is better why anime is rarely realeased on it?
Anime DVDs are lacking the purpose they were originaly created for: be played on TV. They are better for playing on computers, to make fansubs and rips. -_-

I don't have technical knowledge of NTSC or PAL.
But I can't vote which is correct standard, because they are different standards for the analogue television in various places.
See WIKIPEDIA for more information.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL

It is true that NTSC has some problems(For example, necessary to adjust the color balance, low resolution than PAL...).
But in Japan, some televisions aren't support PAL.(In my home, my television isn't support PAL.)
So if we want to obtain the same resolution and the image quality, I think the standards should unite.

Now in America, NTSC will take the place of ATSC(Advanced Television Systems Committee).
I think the fault of NTSC will disappear in the future...

Indeed, PAL and NTSC are color systems, but dvd manufacters use those terms to define DVD's frame rate description, its only a hint term, if they were really pal or ntsc they would have different color systems, and it isnt true.
So we're not really discussing pal or ntsc, we are just discussing the fact that the so called "ntsc" dvds have less frame resolution lines...

I understood your question, belldandy.

Mmm...but I heard that PAL DVDs can't play in the DVD player that is made in Japan.
Some of information, the DVD player need to support the standard that is used in DVD(Not only region code).
I think the DVD drive and the player software installed by the computer don't always support NTSC and PAL.
I need to check it...

Exactly, keiichiroy.
Some of dvd disks and dvd players are manufactured based on different type of standards(means NTSC or PAL).
So before we play or buy DVD, we need to confirm whether the device to reproduce DVD corresponds to the standard of each DVD.

However, playing DVD in computer is different from playing DVD in DVD Players and TV.
So I'm going to search more informations.
