Has anyone seen the Macross Zero oav's? Only 3 of 5 have been released as far as i know, I'm waiting impatiently for the next two. ._.

I got hooked on anime back in highschool when robotech first hit the t.v. in Canada (yeah I'm old) Up to then I'd never met a cartoon with such a solid continuing story so I've always had a soft spot for the franchise.

Macross Zero is a prequel to the original Macross/Robotech series, and it has probably the most beautifull animation i've ever seen. The battle scenes are cg and also well done- the opening battle (with migs and tomcats no less) is absolutly spectacular

UPDATE: all 5 are out now, it was a good show!

My bro has oav's, a playstaition cd, and some Macross and robotech models. You're just like him. In fact he brought himself a model of VF 1-J and Stealth Valkrie-made by Yamato, and a Lisa Hayes model(about 1/8th in scale),and many more, proving that he is a Macross fan.

Hey Lionfish, how's it going! I didn't realize that you and I are almost the same age. I was wondering if I was the only "old man " from the 60's here. I just found this thread, and I came across anime too back in 84-85 when "ROBOTECH" was playing on tv here in the US. Before that was "BATTLE OF THE PLANETS" which was "GATCHAMAN" in Japan. I really didn't get into anime until 1992 when I first saw "VIDEO GIRL AI","AMG"and "URUSEI YATSURA". So "ROBOTECH" is actually "MACROSS" huh. Man that takes me back. I guess this new version is much better than the old one huh? I loved the aerial battles and the Tomcat planes. But I couldn't stand Min-mei that much.

Hey Texas! I went to college for a year there in Abilene! I didn't realise ther were any "old timers" here who still remembered the first anime invasion!

And you don't like Minmei?!?!? wow, you and EVERYONE else, I think she's probably the most reviled femme in all of anime, and she wasn't even a villan!

This newest incarnation of robotech is really eye candy, the story is fine but the animation and design are beautifull, i had to skip back and watch the first dogfight about six times!

Abilene huh?! Wow! They usually get some bad storms up there. Yeah I'm from San Antone, and yeah it's been awhile since that first anime invasion. Amazing how big it's grown huh? Min-mei for some reason just got on my nerves,I don't know if it's just because of bad dubbing, or the fact she just happened to be portrayed as a prima donna. Oh well it has been a long time since I've seen it. Maybe I'll check it out again. For sure I'll check out this newer version. From what you say, it sounds pretty good. Hey ,do you remember the days of anime when there was no dubbing or subtitles? If you didn't know Japanese, you had to guess or use a Japanese dictionary. My younger brother and I took almost 20 minutes trying to find out what was written on a sign on an episode of "URUSEI YATSURA". Ahhh, such fond memories.

yep asgard, prequel, said that in the original post.

Unfortunatly jimmy-san I didn't have the chance to see Urusei Yatsura, looks like a fun series. I moved to a remote part of Canada and didn't get to pick what anime was available, at the time it was mostly just Astroboy, Robotech, and Speed Racer on Tv, I still have to download or order almost anything i add to my collection, thank goddess for fansubs.
And San Antone! nice city, you ever go to the festival at St. Sophia's? went down there for a week visiting a college buddie's family, never made it to where Crockett and Bowie made thier last stand, but had a nice time down on the riverwalk.

Hi Neighbor! I'm glad to hear you came down to visit my neck of the woods. Yeah, "Robotech, Astro boy and Speed racer were the only anime in town for quite a while. Urusei yatsura WAS big for awhile here in the early 90s along with RANMA1/2 but it seems to have completely died now with all the anime flooding the market. No, I've never been to St. Sophia's but there is usually plenty of events around town. I hear Canada's pretty country. Maybe I'll stop by next year and give you a holler.
