I know what you mean. Some look nothing like her. I mean, the eyes matter first of all and the very difficult-to-do hair. Almost nobody could pull it off. Besides, us being in the real world look too much different anyway.

I found this site that makes full body anime costume. The try to make costumes that closly resemble the charatcers as much as possible. Its kinda neat and it takes talent to make them,. but at the same time the costumes look kinda creepy. Here are some of Belldandy:

If you think full body cosplay is bad, there is a site in Japan (I don't know the link) that makes "life-size" action figures of your favourite characters with fully jointed limbs, that are made of latex, and have, err...holes in the right places for, err...after dark activities...-_-
