Belldandy Gift

Is Keiichi...

Topics Ah! My Goddess Is Keiichi...

Is Keiichi immortal? Keep in mind his wish... "I wish for a goddess like you to be with me ALWAYS." (It has also been translated "I wish for you to be with me forever," etc. - either way, it implies eternity) I've been thinking about that more and more lately (influenced by a fanfic I'm writing on the subject). I seriously think he is. When we first met K-1 in the Manga, he was a college Freshman... as of Volume 20 of the manga, he is now a second year senior and doesn't look older at all (just drawn better and with a cooler hair style). Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

well technically a college second year senior isnt that much older than a freshman, plus Keiichi is in an age group that looks pretty much the same even if he's grown a year or two, so i dont think thats an issue.
but its quite interesting how u noticed the thing about the forever element of the contract!

Interesting question. Sort of ties into be careful of what you wish for. But in this case definitely a Good Wish. *sighs enviously* Such a lucky fellow. :bg:

I don't know... remembering my college days, there were people I knew when I was a freshman that I hardly recognized when I was a senior.

Not only that, Keiichi seems to have developed the ability to get in contact with Yggdrasil. He actually tried to call and got through once, and is the first mortal ever to receive two wishes. Further fuel to my question, is Keiichi a mortal anymore? Not only that, he has been on the receiving end of Skuld bombs and Urd bolts several times, and survived with few ill effects. He's even been zapped by Belldandy a time or two.

Not only that, but obviously the Almighty has taken an interest in him. Not only was it Kami-Sama who banished Urd to the surface world, He also arranged for Skuld to live with them as well. When I get finished with the fanfic I'm writing, I'll post it in the Chronicles section for those who would like to read it... I'm tackling this stuff in depth in it.

hmm i once thought if keiichi will be given god status or something at the end of the manga (being surrounded by goddesses must be good for something ^^) or other way round belldandy will be human
you they are together for their lifespan...
but that wont happen...(or wont be explained i deem)
this is a little off topic but slightly related...

inmortallity?
K sertenly does seem to have a bit of luck were others would not and you still have to wonder about "who wants to live forever" exspcially from bell's view. Urd explaines the if Bell ever lost K she would no onger be herself

As for him desplaying powers of the gods he has been able to house an Angle/Devil in is oun body for a period of time, somthing a mortal should not have ben able to do.

as for his servivabillity of skud bombs and suchh he is technichly acartoon chareter and indestruteable(roger Rabbit)

in manga and anime it is common for the characters to survive lightning bolts, bombs etc otherwise it wouldnt be very fun if the character dies off easily.

Hmmm, I never really thought about the "forever" thing. As for immortality, I really don't think so. Part of the reason the series is so charming is the idea of a regular human being's wish coming true, and if K1 were a god, thne what's the point? *shrugs* *walks away

I always interpreted it as this: Belldandy will stay with Keii for the length of his life; when he dies, I simply assumed he'd go to heaven, and since that's Bell's home, they'd be *there* together. And if you really want to get deeper into it, the simple *existence* of a heaven guarantees immortality, or at the very least the *chance* of it, for everyone.

Good point, Melichan...

Trick-starr, I always viewed the series as being about hope, and being better than you think you are. K-1 has some serious self-esteem issues, particularly early on, but proves himself to be quite heroic and honorable over the course of the series. He also has appointed himself Belldandy's protector, despite being only human. It reminds me of a quote from Babylon 5 (I'm paraphrasing, since I have Bronchitis and don't feel like getting up to get the DVD)...

"She does not see the same world we do. In her eyes, we are greater and nobler than we are. I much prefer her world to mine, and will do anything to protect that innocence."
