Nope not from Philippines, just your average Canadian. And I only know english, and enough French to get something to eat and a hotel room. I also got to hear alot of german, italian, dutch and some greek as i live near a nato training station(so I've learned bits and pieces). As for the Tagalog, I often use several online translation sites...... usually for Japanese though.

I can speak two languages English and Afrikaans, and I'm trying to learn japanese, but its difficult and slow going. Though I do know how to swear in about eight different languages and how to say hello in many more. So be carefull when insulting me,.. ^_^, but never fear I don't really swear often myself, but I have this fear of saying hello to someone in thier own language and getting a whole conversation in the tongue, oow shivers

Hmm...lemme see...I can speak French, Dutch and English fluently, Dutch being my native tongue. I know basic German, in other words I can get around when I go to Germany. :) I know a few stuff, like saying hello and goodbye and all, in Spanish, Greek, Italian and Japanese. I know various insults in various languages, though I don't use them that often. I think that's about it...
Oh, and JWalt, it's pretty obvious that you're from South-Africa, looking at the way you spelled "Afrikaan". :bg: I've heard that South-African is a mix of different languages, Dutch being the base. So I guess that means that I can understand that aswel.

I know a little bit of japanese, as in hello's and goodbye's and a few very simple sentences, and I can recognize about 300 kanji, and most of the hirigana and katakana symbols, but I'm much better at understanding romaji.
It's a hobby trying to teach myself japanese, but I'm haveing a bit of trouble without a tutor, I also just took out a teach-yourself japanese book, and I'll hopefully learn a bit more this time...
Oh by the way if there are any tutors reading this who live in south Africa, please e-mail me ^_~ only if you want to that is.

I am also learning myself for more than a year. Haing problems with the Kanji though; probably it took time to adjust to the japanese meaning of th kanji from the chinese meanings

I can speak American and English perfectly(yes there IS a difference!) and i can speak some German, Spanish, Swedish, Chinese(Catonese), and a lot of different words and phrases, plus a couple of sentences in Japanese. :sheep: I'm accually better at getting the pronounciation of a Japanese word right the first time than and American or English. And it's really sad because my native(and first) language is American!

Ah, but which american? there are so many regional differences between the various parts of the country. I practically had to learn a new language while going to school in Alabama, and all the regional dialects cane be quite confusing. I also hear alot of english from the United Kingdom where i'm living now, and the dialects and word meanings can be just as confusing. Happily it's ALL english, just sometimes you have to slow down and actually listen.
