well i still think theres no need to change the enka to polka thing, i mean if somebody likes the manga so much to go out and buy it im sure they'd spend the time to find out what enka is if they do not already know that themselves. Besides its a good way to show cultural diversity!

I was simply adding some info about weaknesses, and I did note that it wasn't about music...no need to get persnikitty. Also trying to keep folks from thinking enka was an individual singer. It's really nothing like U.S. country music, it actually has a similar sound to gypsy and eastern european/mediteranian music since the all use a pentatonic scale. It can be a lovely sound really.

wow! Lionfish u know so much more about this stuff than all of us here!
hmmm... i thought enka was more like old Japan music like a sort of Japanese folk song. Im now quite interested in listening to a sample of enka to find out what it sounds like. BTW i hear that female enka singers usually dress in kimonos!

"wow! Lionfish u know so much more about this stuff than all of us here!" I'm old, sometimes old people know a few things.

"i thought enka was more like old Japan music like a sort of Japanese folk song. Im now quite interested in listening to a sample of enka to find out what it sounds like. BTW i hear that female enka singers usually dress in kimonos!"
Well it is not quite traditional, but it's definatly not the sort of "pop" music that we're used to either. if you go here: http://www.quixium.com/enka/
you'll find some clips of enka music. Click on any of the blue S's, and you'll get a short clip of the artists singing. Listening to that short Harumi Miyako clip was what got me hooked, I actually bid on a vinyl record to get that song, yay ebay!(i won!)
And Yes, the female singers wear kimono while singing( yet another of my weaknesses) If you see a cd with a lady in a kimono on the cover you can make a safe bet it's an enka album.

If I was being persnickity, Lionfish, it wasn't directed at you...

I agree that changing Urd's weakness to Austrian Polkas was one of the dumbest changes Dark Horse has made. I understand the need to "Americanize" it somewhat, but come on! I think saying her weakness was country music would have been a better translation.

I have found out a lot more about Enka over the past few days, but it is not really my style... it effects me like country music does!

neh... they don't bother me as background music and such, but I couldn't sit and listen to one all the way through. I am a big fan of J-Pop and anime music though...

Arigatou for the enka site Lionfish! i had a listen to the clips! wow! its the type of music that is in the anime Tsukikage Ran! sounds like the type of music my grandparents or my parents when they were kids would've listened to!

Lionfish if you like enka music, i would like to tell you that in the comedy samurai anime Tsukikage Ran (aka Carried by the Wind) the theme song is an enka song! very good!

Tamiya. She actually had a second motive for this... she thought Tamiya and Keiichi were lovers.

Yeah, but you know, beneath it all, Tamiya really is a good guy... just overly enthusiastic at times.

I've always thought that an interesting side story would be for Tamiya to get a wish, and Peorth being the one who has to give it. It would definitely make an interesting parallel to the relationship of Keiichi and Belldandy.
