Not from any canon sources other than what I mentioned above. There are several excellent books on mythology that you can find at your local library or bookstore. Or you can do a websearch, but based on official AMG materials, Peorth does not appear to be related to the Norns.

I read somewhere that she was Belldandy's best friend growing up. I have no idea how reliable the source is, though.

Not very reliable. It has never said in the manga that they were best friends, so somebody is making it up.

They were a team back when they were both Yggdrasil debuggers, as shown ina flashback in "The Fourth Goddess" story arch, but it never said they were best friends (they did act like friends during the flashback).

oh yea i remember that arc... i really liked that flash back... ^^ though uhm.... hold on where did i hear of Peorth? i know she's something in the Norse Mythology.... let's see.... ah yes! ^^ peorth in a rune...

"PEORTH (Hearth) This is and ambiguous rune which has been given several meanings. It has variously been translated as 'hearth', 'fruit tree' and chessmen'. It would appear to be connected with games and therefore the power of Wyrd. Alternatively, it can be linked with sacred music, bardism and the sacred dance."

found all this here http://www.wiccanway.net/runes.html

or this:
this rune is associalted with dice throwing. Luck might be supported.

i dont really like to think of A!MG as being directly related to norse mythology, sure it might have some ideas borrowed from it but i dont think we should make assumptions on A!MG from what we find in the legends etc. theyre two completely separate things.

Exactly... anime and manga makers are great at taking an idea from somewhere, changing it into something completely new, and running with it.

A prime example is Lum, who was based on Satan, but changed a lot.

Oh Man ..So many posts, so little patience.

As for nitpicky details, here's one that always drove me batty.

Why do we so vaguely hear about Belldandy and Skuld's mother? I mean, they are practically making it seem like Belldandy and Skuld were born and then abandoned by their parents, which I find a very hard scenario to swallow.

I know I really want to know more about the genealogy of the goddess pantheon. Like if whether or not Peorth counts as a Sister since Kami-sama is technically there father and all.

Well, as I've stated somewhere before, I don't think it matters. What I mean is that I do not believe there was any thought given to it. There isn't going to be an answer to many of the in-depth questions fans want to ask, because I do not think that anyone sat down and plotted things out that far. Aa! My Goddess is wonderful, but it is very far from as well planned as say, Tolkien's work. I'd be willing to bet the genology tree would make little to no sense past immediate family.

the works of J R Tolkien just doesnt seem to do anything for me, sorry, it just doesnt spark my interest, so i've not seen any of the LOTR films.
Anyway i think we can live without the full details of the geneology of the goddesses.

Well, I can provide a bit of an answer, but it will contain

*SPOILER* Do not continue unless you have read at least to volume 23

The focus is more on the main characters and their lives now than their pasts and family. Let's face it, Hild was not introduced until Volume 21, and we didn't meet Keiichi and Megumi's parents until Volume 23. I think by keeping us in suspense, it adds a lot of impact when we do meet them.

Also, it is not established that Kami-Sama is Peorth's father.

As an artist, I do have to admit: we make up most of that stuff as we go along. ^_^; For a lot of artists, we have these awesome ideas about a character, how they should look, what adventures they'll have... but we only have a vague idea of their background, their parents, etc. Personally, and in the case of some of my friends, there are a lot of details I don't make up until they're asked about. With some of that, it's like "Oh yeah... I guess I really didn't think about that before!"

That's not to say this is the case with every artist, but a lot of us let the story make itself up as we go.
