I never really got the point of cel's sure there cool and all but there still just a pic that you can get off the internet easly. (and the fact that they always cost way to much)

EDIT: fix a major mistake I made in wording

I'd have to disagree with you there, link! :=

While you sure can get a pic of what the cell looks like and all that, the point of having the cell itself is to have the artists' original work, which (especially for collectors) is worth much much more than a simple screenshot. It'd be like the difference in having the Eiffle Tower or having a scale model.

I myself wouldn't mind having a cell, but I don't think I'd go for that one even if I had the money to spend (fairly common ailment: poor broke college student syndrome) as I'm sure there are more interesting ones out there. I remember seeing others a while back, one with Bell and her 'angel wings' looked particularly good.

In any case, still a nice find! :Puffy:

Quotewhat's the meaning of cel there?

An animation cel is an original piece of artwork used in the creation of cartoons, anime, etc... (any animated feature) Generally a studio has any number of character artists, background artists, and so on. Background artists will actually do their work on a piece of paper, however, character artists make their drawings on transparent layers (like a projector or overhead sheet) for a more efficient animation process. This way character artists don't have to wait for background artists to finish 30 backgrounds just to get 30 frames (instead, they use one background, but take a 'snapshot' of 30 cels, each layed on top of the background in sequence). This also helps in a way that if the character artist makes a mistake, they need only draw another cel instead of needing the background artist to supply another identical background.

Hope I wasn't too confusing! :sheep:

Cell materials were used almost of a commercial animated cartoon until 1990's, however producing cell picture is too expensive for animation company.
So most animation is made from CG now (without "SAZAESAN"), but the current cell is popular between fans for appreciation. Some cells are made from a great scene of a full digital animation, and it is made by artists's paint under the cooperation of production.
