Anyone who can cite this as either a result of monetary or fiscal policy and why gets a cookie:p (Latest figures show the USD at $1.01 to every CAD) I forsee nobody posting here, but thought I'd do it anyway :=

I have no ideas to the policies at work, but it is interesting to note the Canadian dollar was at a higher value during the Vietnam war as well, only losing value to the USD after the americans left. Also, although the canadian dollar is stronger recently, it's more a story of the weakining of the US dollar.

True, the US does have a weak dollar policy in an attempt to increase foreign purchase of American goods, but Canada is not without its economic advancements. Should I just go ahead and give out the answer since nobody cares? According to the poll at least :p I believe the last time the CAD had a higher value was in 1976. Ironic I think.
