Yeah, the ending of the series is much more uplifting than the movie. They had run out of budget by then, so chose to show only the aspect of Shinji's inner conflict, whereas the movie gives us more explanation and kind of makes us all sick. @_@

Hideki Anno actually got death threats for the way he ended the series, and there was such a public uproar that he decided to give everyone what they "wanted" in the movie. Unfortunately, it ended up as one of those "be careful what you wish for" scenarios, where he took what he thought the fans most wanted to see and twisted it, turning it into something apalling.

I'd say "unholy" is a *very* good word for EoE... that feel is probably what made it one of the most controversial anime series of the 20th century! The movie pushed the envelope even further, with more gore, more nudity, more sex, more blasphemy... It's as if Anno said "Oh, you didn't like how the characters ended up in the series? Fine! This time I'll have them all tortured and killed!"

thats not very nice of Hideki Anno! then again the fans were wrong to send death threats to him in the first place. At least we could choose which ending we want, afterall the EoE movie was intended as an alternative ending.
However, watching the EoE makes one think, you could say that the human race have gotten itself into such a state. Maybe the best and only way is to wipe it out altogether and start anew. This seems an extremely draconian answer in my opinion, i would much rather prefer the Belldandy way of moving forward.

I really did enjoy it. It was very disturbing, but most thought-provoking things are. I love anything that forces us to think "outside the box", so to speak... to make us leave our normal range of thinking. I must have watched it three times in the first week that I owned it, knowing it was created with so much meaning and I just had to keep looking for it. It made my head hurt, in a good way. ^_^; Plus I can't deny it was incredibly flashy. Smooth animation, awesome action sequences, the pace building at a constant and breakneck speed. It inspired me as an animator as well as a person.

Well, nothing but my school assignments so far! :heh: didn't mean to give the wrong impression, there. I'm strictly 2D; I've tried and don't care for 3D... the programs aren't friendly to the artistic mind. ^_^; too much programming. I'm working on my demo reel (my final animation) to graduate, but that's a slow process... I want to take as much time as I need to to get it right. After I graduate, who knows? Not Disney, that's all I can say. :P

Anyways...art is not thatcomplicated with hose who really love it.

The robots in evangelion were pretty cool. I didn't know that it can move and has a life itself...when Ginji was in danger, His robot became violent and cannibal-eating the flesh of the enemy. yuck!

Yes, that's right. And when your robot is hurt, you get affected too. Their robots can even have a life of their own. It happened one time w/ Shinji's robot...

it gets even more confusing towards the end of the series too, we then learn that the EVAs are inhabited with the souls of lost love ones! in Shinji's case it is his mother's soul.
