that is a very interesting theory Melichan, i neveer noticed that before. But what is Shinji's goal in his journey? i never really did understand that.

Alright, Asuke's eye is brown because of the lighting. It has no symbolic purpose and she is wearing the bandages because if you didn't see before, she died with her Eva, and she sycronized(SP?) so much with it that whatever happened to it happened to her. Thus why she right arm was spilt in half and her eyes bleed.

The thing I love about Evangelion is that there are *so* many interpretations that can be had from it, and all of them could very well be *right*!

And to reply to K1, I suppose the goal of Shinji's journey would be spiritual enlightenment, as it would with anyone else... According to many religions (Buddhism and Gnosticism come to mind), the goal of each soul is to reach enlightenment; throughout several lifetimes, the soul learns to cast off the material and become one with the universe. In EoE, this was acted upon *literally*. It's only through a horrible mistake that Shinji is given the choice of forcing "enlightenment" upon us all.

*has watched the series/movie at least a dozen times, and done a lot of research*

so Melichan, what you're saying is that Shinji has put the world through a series of "cycles" with each cycle getting closer to the ultimate stage of enlightment? so with the EoE the world was reborn and a new cycle has begun.

Well, in this particular case, Shinji is only in charge of the most recent "cycle", and only by accident. Both Gendo and Seele were trying to control the fate of humanity, but because Rei rebelled and refused to be a puppet, she let Shinji choose. It's a large-scale, literal interpretation of the journey each soul takes in each lifetime; in religion this journey is taken by each individual soul, and each re-incarnation is another "cycle", another step in the journey to enlightenment. When the soul finally becomes enlightened, it joins with the universe to become part of all things, to be ever at peace.

it's kinda cruel though don't you think? forcing all those souls into this process.

Definitely... and what makes it even worse is that *Shinji* gets to decide! They pretty much spend the whole series building up the fact that Shinji's an indecisive whiner with an Oedipus complex, and then they put the fate of the world in his hands?? That's pretty twisted.

As for Gendo and Seele, they were powermongers and really didn't care what happened to the rest of the world. Seele had planned to remake the world to fit their own designs; Gendo betrayed them so that he could merge all souls and be with Yui again; then Rei betrayed Gendo out of concern for Shinji, proving she wasn't his puppet! @_@

Evangelion really has a sad history, but duranting the all serie
give to are watching a vision very deep of human psicology...
for that is very elaborated...not like the truly meaning of life
reflected by Ah Megamisama, the happiness and love must give to all the force to beat problems...

im not sure about everyone else here but the movie End of Evangelion gives me a sort of "unholy" feel (im not sure if that is an appropriate choice of words) with its depiction of the apocalypse and putting the fate of mankind in the hands of one with such a fragile unstable mind like Shinji's.
The original ending for the Evangelion series is probably better because it shows Shinji realising what he has to do in his life and breaking out of his secluded world.
